Mindfulness (MBSR) @ Work Program and Materials: Week #1 Introduction

Welcome to
Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) @ Work

MBSR is a course that relies on daily practice, in which we cultivate awareness of ourselves, and of things "as they are."
This awareness grows from the inside out, relying on guidance, at first, but not on outside authority...

All reading is optional; it is your daily practice of awareness of breathing, body scanning,
mindful yoga, meditation; and other practices you will learn, that will lead to
the unique and deep benefits available from this course

There's an old Zen story:
A student said to Master Ichu, "Please write for me something of great wisdom."
Master Ichu picked up his brush and wrote one word: "Attention."
The student said, "Is that all?" The master wrote, "Attention Attention."...

"The faculty of bringing back a wandering attention, over and over again, is the very root of judgment, character,
and will….An education which should improve this faculty would be the education par excellence.
But it is easier to define this ideal than to give practical directions for bringing it about."
William James, Principles of Psychology

Practice is the essential focus for the MBSR course.
